My name is Skye and I’m an alcoholic.
I know what you are thinking…
and YES, this IS an art site where I sell original paintings and fine art prints, but ABOVE ALL ELSE, I’m a person in long-term recovery, and for me, that means I haven’t had to take a drink or any mind altering substances since January 5, 2013.
The truth of the matter is that without my sobriety, the following list of the OTHER things I am today would not be possible:
a mother to the wittiest human ever created,
a wife to a pretty awesome fella who supports me in all my adventures
a hiker who finds GOD in mountains and trees and streams
a friend to all creatures great and small (by this I MOSTLY mean CATS)
and now, apparently, an ARTIST-PAINTER-PERSON who is TOTALLY OBSESSED with PAINTING
To be completely transparent, I am a beginner at painting.
I had no idea what was about to happen when I was introduced to watercolors by a fellow hiker last year at Pinhotifest. That was the day, under a pavillion in a park in Sylacauga, Alabama, I sketched and painted the dead leaf, my first watercolor painting. Time ceased to exist as I painted, and for the first time like EVER, the “committee” in my head was dead silent.
Every day since then I have been preoccupied by the urge to paint. I feel closer to the Universe now, like a divine spark has been lit inside me. When I’m not painting, I’m THINKING about painting. I quickly consumed as much knowledge and practiced as much as I could, and to MY surprise even, turns out I’m a good painter. I never knew this was locked inside me all those years, just waiting for the right moment of willingness to grow and burn bright.
I am now constantly inspired by roads, fields, mountains, trees, clouds, buildings, food, animals, windows, fences, fog, and the weirdest one is screensavers! My friends and family urged me to share my paintings, so here we are. That’s my story. Thank you for taking the time to share and support my journey.
